Hollow, Again!
In 2025, I started blogging at owlghoulgames.blogspot.com with the intention to keep a record of my thoughts on boardgames and TTRPGs that I love, as well as mark my progress as an aspiring game designer. It was an effort…. paltry with only four posts over the course of 6 months– but still an effort! Considering I’m an easily distracted, adult Singaporean grateful for the pyrrhic manacles of full-time employment, I take my previous year’s attempt a flimsy win!
Choosing Blogger as my blog host was mostly a nostalgic choice. I used to blog with more abandon as a reckless teen, and blogger met all my early 2000s needs. Also Blogger was a pretty fuss free way to get started. But there were a few pain points that I had to live with. Namely:
- Poor mobile device optimisation.
- Not much discoverability.
- The constant existential fear of enshittification, or more likely, eventual shutting down of Blogger.
Super huge thanks to Melsonia Arts Council and their trusty newsletter that pointed me to the TTRPG community here at Bear Blog. It solved all the above three banes elegantly, and I’m excited to read the other TTRPG blogs in this space.
I’m also very won over by Bear Blog’s manifesto , and the promise that the platform will not die or become an ad-ridden, paywalled monstrosity. I think Herman was smart to front his name for this project. It makes him relatable and raises his accountability, as if we would scour an entire phonebook to find him if he broke his promise.
That’s all the non-game related rambling. Looking to keep this blog always oozing with love for boardgames, TTRPGs and game design!
